Borrowdale Fell Race – English champs AL – Sat 2 Aug 2025

From Alison Weston…

The 5th English champs race was Borrowdale – an epic 17-mile 6500-feet from Rosthwaite in Borrowdale making its way to Esk Hause contouring around Glaramara and Allen Crags, then on to Scafell Pike, down the wicked scree to the corridor route then up Great Gable and along to Honister Pass for the final pull up Dalehead before the final descent back to the valley.

The weather was a tad warm but there was a breeze on the tops and no problem this year with visibility.

The race was won by Finlay Wild in 2:49:26 with Ben Rothery 2nd in 2:55:03 and Finlay Grant close on his heels in 2:55:16. Oli Murphy had a great race to finish 11th in 3:15:36 and Jack Gribbin 99th in 04:11:03.

Jane McCarthy had a fabulous race and was 1st FV50 in 04:26:04 followed by Paul Carman in 04:46:44. Alison Weston was just over 5 hours in 5:02:12 (2nd FV60) and Jann Smith 05:30:56 (3rd FV55).

The ladies managed to get a team result of 3rd FV40 and 1st FV50.
