From Alison Weston….
What a day for the relay – no rain or mist this year and even a bit of blue sky. After sorting the logistics of the four different legs of the relay, Ilkley’s two teams (open team and mixed vets relay) set off from Patterdale at 9.30 am. Sasha and Dave on leg 1 for the mixed vets team and Finn and Paul for the open team.
Both had great runs up to Angle Tarn and into Hartsop, where Kate and Nick took over for the mixed vets team and Gawain and Dave Robson for the open team – a hard climb up to High Street and then on to Kirkstone Pass to meet John and Alison for the mixed vets and Iain and Steven for the open team.
Leg 3 has a steep climb up Red Screes and then a run along to Dove Crag before dropping down a very steep descent to Hartsop Hall. Katie and Ed, Forrest and Oli were ready for the final leg 4 up to Fairfield and down via St Sunday Crag. Great finish for both teams into the field back at Patterdale.
Oli and Forrest had a superb run to bring Ilkley open team into the top 20.
And Katie and Ed did likewise for the mixed vets team with overall position of 5th mixed vets team.
