Two years ago I had a go at the Edinburgh marathon. It was a fabulous race, but my abiding memory is of being lashed with freezing cold rainstorms. This year I opted to do the half marathon. The weather was the complete opposite – very hot and sunny all day. The heat was pretty draining but we somehow powered through it.
Sarah and Lucy also ran the half marathon and Oliver ran the relay with three of his cousins. The crowds are amazing, and to finish near the sea is great for those (like me) who swear by the healing qualities of a cold swim. Two years ago I was too cold and shivery to take a plunge. This time I went straight in the water as soon as I could. It was both freezing and a wonderful antidote to the intense heat.
