On Friday the 10th of February I decided to take a trip to York to enter the 5K Evensplits race at York University Cycle track. I have heard a lot about this venue and that it is good for a PB, I wasn’t disappointed. The course is pan flat with each lap perfectly measuring 1Km. I have raced at Leeds and at Barrowford in the past but I feel that this is the fastest course I have raced on by far.
So I turned up along with 83 other runners, the weather was blustery but dry. My intention was to try and run a sub 17 minute race at a venue which is UKA licensed as I have never done this before apart from at a parkrun.
The race got underway and I had a strong first kilometre running it in 3:08 seconds I knew that I now had four more laps to go but felt strong, my next kilometre was a 3:19 and I now got into a nice rhythm completing each lap at a similar pace.
I crossed the finish line with a time of 16:50 and coming first in my age category finishing 12th overall.
I can really recommend this venue and is definitely worth the travel if you are looking to PB this is definitely the place to go!!
This race will be run each month a long side the Leeds races.
