From Sally Armitage…
Today I headed west again, this time for a 20 mile road race. Another of the Lancaster Race Series events. Similarly to Spen 20, Trimpell 20 is a renowned ‘marathon prep’ race in advance of the spring marathon season. Unlike Spen, this race is flat, which suited me well on the little training I’d managed to get in prior to the race! Starting on a riverside path there were almost 3 out and backs from the start, all in different directions. It worked well, though the start was congested and I’d started too far back, almost tripping another runner up trying to squeeze through, but a few kilometres in everyone had spread out enough to settle into their own pace.
I was feeling good until around mile 13 when I started to struggle, I think I was just undertrained, by mile 16 my pace had started to drop. However at around mile 18 I managed to mentally glue myself onto a passing gentleman which led to a speedier final few miles. I finished just over my target time and even bagged an age category prize for finishing 2nd F45, more race vouchers!
