WYXC #1 Nunroyd Park – Sun 12 Oct 2025

From Alison Bennett…

The first of 4 races in the league and was held locally at Nunroyd Park, Guiseley. The conditions for this 9.5 km race were dry, warm and sunny so quite unusual for an event usually associated with mud and rain.

There were tremendous results for Ilkley with Edward Hobbs winning the race, 10 seconds clear of the 2nd placed runner; and Christos Tzelis taking 3rd, only couple of seconds later. Stephen Coy was 70th and 3rd V50,

Although popular with Harriers in the past this league is now attracting fewer club members. Everyone can take part and it’s still possible to enter for the later races. The cross country is a good event for speed and endurance which can benefit performances in other types of running.

1 Edward Hobbs 30:27

3  Christos Tzelis 30:39

70 Stephen Coy  37:53

105 Adam Gerrish 41:50

The men’s race was preceded by the ladies’ who ran 5.5 km. Although I finished well towards the back of the field, there was some compensation; by virtue of being the only female Ilkley Harrier taking part, I was the first finisher for the club.
