Hi Harriers,

Another amazing set of Ilkley Harrier race results for July!

Have a look and put forward the name(s) of those who have impressed you this month, both for running and for volunteering. This will then be compiled as a list of ‘Outstanding Achievements’ for July. You can nominate either here on Facebook or by email to homnom@ilkleyharriers.org.uk. Please let us know your nominations prior to the next committee meeting on Tuesday 21st August.

July started with Kate Archer and Outi Kamarainen completing the Kirkfell Class of the Saunders Lakeland Mountain Marathon, an annual 2-day mountain navigation race held in the Lake District. They finished in an impressive 13th place overall of the 22 teams who completed this class (39 started).

Dick Waddington completed the Lakes Sky Ultra, a 58km race held in the Lake District, which includes 4500m of ascent. This is one of the few skyrunning (defined as mountain-running above 2000m over extremely technical trails by the International Sky Running Federation) races held in the UK. Dick finished this in an impressive 12:32:41, taking 2nd V45 place.

A great month also for Ben Sheppard who completed the Lakeland 50, finishing this ultra race in an impressive 12th place. Ben also took 1st place at Stirton Fell race, finishing this in a time of 40:33.

A great turn out of Ilkley Harriers at this year’s Addingham Gala fell race, a counter in this years Harrier’s race league. This was superbly organised by Jack Wood, Dan Wilkinson and Ben Joynson. Jack Cummings won this race and was closely followed by Nathan Edmonson in 3rd place and Michael Lomas in 9th place. Kate Archer was 3rd lady. There were lots of category prizes for Ilkley Harriers; Jim Ryder 1st MV50, Alison Weston, 1st LV50 and Hilda Coulsley 1st LV60.

Other fell races this month included The Alva Games fell race which saw Iain Gibbons take 11th place. Iain also came in 7th place at the Cracoe Fell race, with Jack Cummings taking 3rd place at this race and Alison Weston coming 2nd LV50. Michael Lomas completed the Snowdon Mountain Race in an impressive 1:33:09. Pauline Munro was 2nd female finisher and 1st W45 at the Ingleborough Mountain Race, with Alison Weston taking 1st W50 place in this race and Dave Robson finishing in an impressive 47th place out of 209 finishers.

On lower ground, some great trail results this month also. Lucy Williamson was 1st lady at the Run Harrogate 10km race, with Paul Calderbank taking 1st V55 place at this race and Chantal Busby taking 2nd LV50 place. Steve Murray also completed this race coming an impressive 29th out of 408 finishers.

Colin Williams completed the Manvers Dusk to Dawn race, an endurance event held just north of Rotherham at Wath-upon-Dearne. This involves running as many 3.21 laps of the lake as possible between 6pm one evening and 6am the following day. Colin completed an impressive 16 laps of the lake, running a total of 51.36 miles.

Also on the trails, Ilkley Harriers got the 2nd mixed team prize at the Washburn Valley Relays, the team consisting of Lucy Williamson, Martin Archer and Dave Foyston.

The final 2 races of the HDSRL took place in July with Rob Little taking 1st place at the Thirsk race and Matt Cox coming in 7th place at the Nidd Valley race. Ilkley Harriers came an impressive 3rd overall in the cumulative results.

On the road this month Colin Williams continued to show his resilience taking park in the Scorcher Run Festival held in Lancashire, described as the ‘Ultimate British Summer Running Festival’, consisting of 7 races held over a consecutive 7 days. 50k ultra, marathon, half marathon, 5 mile, and 1 mile options are available and distances can be mixed each day. Colin took part in the marathon distance on day 6 of this event, which consisted of a 6-lap race on quiet roads, finishing in an impressive 3rd place in a time of 3:30:47.

Jann Smith completed the Silsden Murder mile this month and was 1st senior lady.

Some great parkrun results too this month; Rachel Carter finished 1st lady at Skipton and Stephen Gott was 1st finisher at Bramley parkrun on 2 occasions this month. Sally Armitage finished 2nd lady at the Woodhouse Moor parkrun, Rob Cunningham finished in 3rd place at the Skipton parkrun and Adam Rhodes took 5th place at the Bradford parkrun. I couldn’t help noticing that both Steve Murray and Hilda Coulsley completed the Portrush Parkrun in Northern Ireland on the same day this month. I hope the managed to spot each other!

Race 6 of the Evensplits 5km series took place this month with Hilda Coulsley taking 1st F65 place.

All in all, a busy month with lots of great results from Ilkley Harriers!

This list is by no means exhaustive and I am sure you have been impressed by others (either runners or volunteers) who do not appear in this summary, so please nominate!

We look forward to hearing from you.
Many thanks.
