Hi Harriers,
Although a short month, Ilkley Harrier members have managed to pack in some impressive results in February!

It’s time to put forward your nomination(s) for the Harrier of the Month, both for running and volunteering. Have a look and put forward the name(s) of those who have impressed you with their running and/or with their contribution to the club. You can nominate either here on Facebook or by email to homnom@ilkleyharriers.org.uk. Please let us know your nominations prior to the next committee meeting on Tuesday 6th March.

From longest to shortest…. Jann Smith and Paul Carmen completed their 1st ultra on the island of Gran Canaria, the Transgrancanaria Advanced, a 64km race which involves running the length of the island from North to South. Paul came an impressive 115th and Jann an impressive 168th out of 1000 runners.

Colin Williams completed the Bolton Abbey Trail marathon, his 1st marathon and finished in a superb 7th place in a time 3:58:04.

14 Ilkley Harriers completed the 23mile long Rombald’s Stride with 4 Ilkley Harriers finishing in the top 10; Ben Sheppard, Michael Lomas, Dan Wilkinson and Paul Carmen. Great running also from both Jane Mc Carthy who was joint 1st lady and Adela Reperecki who was 1st F55.

The 19-mile Wadsworth Trog was held on the same day as Rombald’s Stride, with Jack Wood taking an impressive 2nd place.

The British Heart Foundation Harewood half marathon also saw some great results from Ilkley Harriers, with Jane McCarthy finishing 3rd lady and 1st V40.

Dave Robson made an impressive return from injury completing the 8.3-mile Flower Scar Fell race, finishing in 34th position in a field of 185 in 1:22:28.

Some great 10km results this month also; Petra Bijsterveld achieving a PB in the Dewsbury 10km, completing the race in a time of 50:28. 14 Ilkley Harriers ran in the British Heart Foundation Harewood 10 km race (a league race counter), with Will Buckton and Jonathan Turner finishing impressively in 12th and 16th place respectively. Hilda Coulsey and Jane Bryant also had great runs, finishing 1st V60 and 2nd V50 respectively. Great also to see Sue Williamson back on the racing scene and having great run.

There was a great turnout of Ilkley Harriers for the Ilkley Moor Fell race with Tom Adams taking 1st place as well as winning the 40th Yorkshire Senior Fell Championships. Other great results included Lucy Haines who was 2nd U23, Alison Weston who was1st V50 and Sarah Haines who was 2nd V50.

The 5th race of the PECO series took place in February, with Steven Gott finishing 24th in the men’s race and Adela Reperecki, finishing 1st F55. Some Ilkley Harriers also travelled to London’s Parliament Hill for the English National Cross Countries, with Tim Ashelford, Steven Coy, Steve Weston, Diane Kitchen and Petra Bijsterveld all flying the flag for the Ilkley Harriers.

There were lots of great Parkrun results in February; particularly impressive are Paula Reynier and Oscar Street who did a parkrun every Saturday in February. Steven Gott came in 3rd place at 2 of the Bramley park runs this month.

Euan Brennan competed in the Armagh International 5km and managed to knock 24 seconds off his PB, completing the race in a speedy 15:22.

This list is by no means exhaustive and I am sure you have been impressed by others who do not appear in this summary!
We look forward to receiving your nominations!
Many thanks.
