Offroad under the full moon run 2nd of October

Postby nikos » Mon Sep 24, 2012 1:04 pm

Although the full moon is during the weekend, I ll be taking a group out to the moor on Tuesday for a 7 to 8 mile run on the fairly wide paths so more trail than fell but with enough fell to add to the excitement! Trail shoes and fully charged head torches please.

We will be regrouping at 3 places but the pace will be steady aiming at a 8:45ish average pace for the full distance. Depending on the group could be faster or slower.

If you are interested come prepared and do carry a waterproof just in case, not sure what the forecasted weather will be next week.

Attracted more by the prospect of running on the moor at night than the prospect of gazing at the full moon, I hope to join you for this Nikos, assuming you are still leading it.

If Nikos is not still able to lead the group, I and a couple of others are still up for a headtorch run, so we're planning to meet at the Cow and Calf car park at 7 even if you can no longer lead it. (Nikos didn't say where you were planning to meet so we decided on there.)

Whether or not Nikos is still our leader, I am sure everyone is welcome to join us and whoever turns up I am sure we can cater for all paces. Absent Nikos, I think Jez would be persuaded to lead the group, in which case we should be prepared to get lost and do an extra couple of miles.

There were some suggestions of a ceremonial offering to the god of full moons, in the traditional form of a pint at the C&C pub afterwards. (May require a change of footwear and outer-clothing if it's wet on the moor, in order to appease the god of pub landlords.)

Hi Ben,

I was hoping to see you at the circuits last night so we can synchronise watches but also race you!

On club nights I have always taken my headtorch groups from the club. We did speak with Jez on Facebook and told him the post is on the forum and when he asked where we meeting I said 7 at the club. But I have no problem meeting at the cow and calf and starting the run from there.

I can re draw the route in my mind easily from any part of the moor but I would not have any issues letting Jez do the leading even if that means a few extra miles, I spend hours night running on the moor so more is better for me when it comes to running.

Reason I have not posted location is because whenever I taken a group out on the fells in the dark and one night even with a couple of inches icy trails we set off from the club. If it wasn't a club night the location would be next to the moor for sure. As long as this post is seen by everybody that was planning to come along I am fine coming to the cow and calf.

Full moon wise we wouldn't have to stop running one glimpse up and the moon will be there above us. The light is great when the full moon is there and if you wanted and allow your eyes to get used to the darkness you wouldn't even need a headtorch but for safety reasons we use them!

Having a change of clothes is certainly a good idea and cow and calf hotel on a Tuesday night should be nice and quiet especially at the time we ll be finishing. I never say no to parties, socials and ceremonies ;-)

Let me know what you would like to do so we can spread the word.

Nikos,

Thanks for the reply. Since I have arranged with Jez and Tony to meet at the Cow and Calf car park we'll stick to that plan on this occasion. It means we get straight onto the moor (and then straight into the pub). Hope you can join us, and hopefully anyone else interested in joining us will see this post and meet us there too.

I'll apologise to any club members who wanted to meet at the club for this run, and to anyone who considers that not meeting at the club on club night is not in the spirit of things. I do think that the pre-run gathering at the club is important to the fabric of the club and I didn't intend to detract from that convention in any way.

Nikos/Ben

I think I must apologise for this mix up. I wasn't aware that we were meeting at the club, so made arrangements whereby we could head straight off on to the moors & avoid roads at all costs !

cheers

Hi guys and hi all,

No need to apologise. You can keep your group as it is and whoever reads this forum post can come and join you but I will have to stick to the plan and take a group out from the club as it s a club night. Any other night would be fine. You must aprreciate that if we were to start taking groups out from anywhere would want would in way send the message out that club nights are not important.

I am not sure if they will be enough time for some of us to join you afterwards but there is a possibility we bump onto each other somewhere on the moor. Some bright lights will be moving on the moor tonight.

So to summarise this

One group with me as a leader (Nikos) from the club at 7pm
One group with Jez/Ben as leaders from Cow and Calf at 7pm

Have a great run whichever group you decide to join.

P.S Jez I have never run in my life on roads until I moved to the UK in 1995 when people ran on roads and I would join them for the company. I don't like roads either but a mile and something from the club is ok then we are on trails. I will have to deal with those costs to keep the team spirit alive.
