A quick update on where we are with coach education courses.
Paul Stephens and Clare Smith have completed the FRA's (fell) version of a LiRF course. Paul has a bit in the forthcoming newsletter about how interesting and valuable the course was.
Jez Hellewell is doing the Bradford College course on 23 June, and Val Kerr is signed up for the Harrogate course on 24 June. There are places still available on the Harrogate course.
That leaves quite a number of people who said they were interested still to find a suitable course. I'm trying again to set up a course in Ilkley that will hopefully suit.
Other courses coming up (contact me for details) are:
30 June Kirklees
15 Sep Huddersfield
30 Sep Kirklees
Comments on funding etc. above are all still relevant: if you are to use this course for the benefit of Ilkley Harriers then the Club will pay the course costs (normally £110) but may ask for your help in any paperwork to get some grant support; alternatively, and for all courses, if you are setting up a novice running group then the course fee is waived by the course organisers, though the detail on this varies.
If there's anyone else interested in doing these courses please do contact me (do have a look at the info above first, which may answer some questions).

If you are doing the FRA Leader in Running Fitness course in Ilkley on 1 September, it is time to fill in and send off your form, attached below. And let me know you've done this, please.
I will be contacting those who have previously expressed an interest in doing a LiRF course this year but have not yet found a suitable course.
If you're considering this for the first time, there's some information on this forum in earlier posts to this thread, and a very good review of the course in our newsletter, and please do contact me for more information.

A few words on funding. The cost of this course is £90. Ilkley Harriers 'the Club' has agreed to fund a number of places on this course, with two conditions:
- LiRF graduates use their training for the benefit of the Club (take a turn at leading existing sessions, create a new session for Club members or beginners, etc.)
- the Club may need you to complete some paperwork to help us reclaim part of the costs of the course
If you can send a cheque for £90 payable to FRA with your application, the Club Treasurer Eddie Winslow will reimburse you in full when you cheque is cashed (*). Or if you like Eddie can provide a cheque for £90.
* I am still trying to obtain full funding for IH members doing the course, in which case any cheques sent will not be cashed, I'll keep candidates informed on this.

This is a fell-oriented course, led by experienced fell running coaches. If you really want one that's more road focussed then there are alternatives listed in the newsletter in September and October but here too you need to start thinking about getting your application forms done now. Please discuss with me or at least tell me you've applied as I've somehow got the role of co-ordinating all this (happy to hand it over if anyone's super keen ...))

Finally, a big THANK YOU from me as Chairman, and from the Committee, to anyone making this commitment for the Club. The Club has some excellent coaches, but needs more!

We still need a few more applications for the Ilkley LiRF course! See earlier post.
Here are some recent notes on the CRB process, superseding my earlier post. NB Neil Chapman is our Club CRB Checker, and can help with completing the form.

I hear our LiRF course at Ilkley went very well and was enjoyed by the 5 Harriers amongst the attendees. Hopefully we'll read all about it in the next newsletter (gentle hint!)
There were others interested in doing a LiRF course who couldn't make that date, so here are details of some more courses coming up ...
30th September Leeds Road, Huddersfield
5th October Spring Hall, Halifax
Jan, York
If you're interested please contact me to discuss. These courses can fill up quickly.
Also, there will soon be a meeting of LiRFers to discuss 'life after the course' - watch this space!

Pleased to report we have another 3, maybe 4, members going on a LiRF course soon. Do have a look at the 'roll of honour' in the newsletter and do come to the social tonight that will talk about coaching.

From Colin Daniel (Bingley Harriers)
(Shirley has emailed a number of people she think might be interested in this.)

"Bingley Harriers are promoting a workshop/talk on the Development of Junior Endurance Running to be led by Dave Sunderland who is a National coach mentor for Endurance Running at England Athletics and has been coaching at this years Olympics. The main topic will be based on the transition of junior (under 15) to senior training, plus any related topics based on feed back.

The evening will consist of a talk followed by a question and answer session.

The event will be held at Beckfoot School Bingley on Monday 19th November,
Wagon Lane
Bingley
Bradford
West Yorkshire
BD16 1EE

Report at reception 7-15pm for 7-30pm Start

If you have any specific questions you would like Dave to include in his talk please forward them to Colin at Bingley before the event colinjdaniel@gmail.com
It would also help if you could confirm your intention to attend.
We look forward to meeting as many coaches as possible."
