Hi Harriers,
It’s hard to believe the 1st month of the new year is over already!

It’s time to put forward your nomination(s) for the Harrier of the Month for January, both for running and volunteering. Have a look and put forward the name(s) of those who have impressed you with their running and/or with their contribution to the club. You can nominate either here on Facebook or by email to homnom@ilkleyharriers.org.uk. Please let us know your nominations prior to the next committee meeting on Tuesday 6th February.

There were lots of great Parkrun results in January; Tom Adams returning from injury coming 1st in the Bradford park run, Rob Cunningham coming consistently in the top 10 at the Stretford Park Run and Steven Gott coming 3rd in the Bramley Parkrun. Great also to see Will Worboys return to running, completing the Skipton and Bradford Park Runs in great times. Chris Cunningham and Petra Bijsterveld also flew the flag for the Ilkley Harriers, completing Park Runs in Australia and Germany respectively this month.

It’s also been a busy month on the fells with Colin Williams finishing an impressive 38th at the Nine Standards fell race, and Jack Wood coming 1st at the Stanbury Splash completing the course in 45:44. 8 other Harriers completed this race with Mikal Lomas coming 24th in a field of 305 runners. Jack Wood also won the Mytholmroyd Fell race and Mikal Lomas also had an impressive finish in this race, coming 4th.

Cross country season is in full swing with a fantastic turn out of Ilkley Harriers at the Yorkshire XC, the PECO XC and the Northern XC races. Jack Wood came an impressive 7th at the Yorkshire XC held on 6th January and Jane McCarthy was 5th in the ladies PECO XC race held on 7th January. At the Northern XC Championships, which were held in the grounds of Harewood House this year, Euan Brennan came an impressive 3rd in the men’s U17 race and Bethan Morley came 5th in the ladies U17 race. In the senior men’s race Jack Wood came 18th in a field of 761 runners and Pauline Munro came 57th out of the 435 women running in the ladies’ senior race.

It’s also been busy on the road, with Kate Archer completing the Brass Monkey Half marathon in a superb time of 1:31:58. The 1st race of the Ilkley Harriers League took place in Meltham with 8 Harrriers completing the Meltham (tough) 10km. Some excellent results with Jonathan Turner completing it in 43:12 and in 31st position. Hilda Coulsley was 2nd F60 and Phil Hirst and Caroline Howe were both 3rd in their age categories.

This list is by no means exhaustive and I am sure you have been impressed by others who do not appear in this summary.

We look forward to receiving your nominations!
Many thanks.
