Harrier of the month time! What a month it’s been with lots of action on and off road. Please take advantage of the new darker evenings for an excuse to sit down in front of the fire and have a quick scan of the website and add any names to this summary of achievements . . . as always it’s great to have your contributions for both runners and volunteers. There may be lots of newer members not racing but making great improvement or just showing commitment to training, so please name names!

Petra Bijsterveld had a busy month tackling back to back races at Kielder at the start of October and rounding off the month with another great run at Snowdonia Marathon finishing comfortably under 5 hours. Tom Adams finished off the Lakeland Trails series by "doing the double” - Helvellyn and Ullswater races, coming first in both and winning the series overall. Jack Wood had a cracking result at a very challenging Langdale Horseshoe this year finishing 10th in a strong field. Some good placings at the WYXC races with Jack Wood, Jemima Elgood and Pauline Munro all finishing in the top ten of their races and strong performances from Matt Cox, Tim Ashelford, Kate Archer and Sally Malir. Lots of other harriers taking part though so please name those who have been training hard or taking on new challenges!

Some great road performances - lots of half marathon results - Paul Sugden at the Royal Parks half marathon and Lucy Williamson at Bangor - 17th place overall. Jean Sullivan completed the Heart of Eden half in an impressive 1 hr 53 and finishing in the top half over this challenging course. The increasingly popular Yorkshire marathon saw some fantastic results with 6 Harriers completing the course, 4 of them running sub-4 hour times with Mike Helm first harrier home in 3 hrs 33 and at least one PB, to my knowledge, from Caroline Howe who knocked a sizeable chunk off her previous time. The 10 mile course also drew a good number of harriers with Jane McCarthy coming an impressive 73rd place overall. Another great marathon result for Andrew Merrick who managed to complete the Chicago race in 3 hours 17, meaning he has now done 5 of the Big Six, just Tokyo to go!

Well done everybody - as always there will be something or somebody who has been overlooked so please fill in the gaps . . . Nominations here on FB or to homnom@ilkleyharriers.org.uk. The Committee is meeting on Tuesday (7th) so nominations before then please. Thank you!!!
