Hello, it is that time again to send in your nominations for the July Harrier of the Month. Please let me have your runner and/or volunteer of choice via email, Facebook or the forum, by Tuesday afternoon please. As usual here is a handy summary from Helen Waddington for you:
July has seen Harriers competing in races all over the place and distances ranging from the (really) long to short and sharp and everything in between. As always, this is just a summary and you know who has been training and racing hard, even if not taking the top places, so please don't be shy and feel free to add names on Facebook or email your nominations to firstname.lastname@example.org
Starting with the international stuff - Tom Adams came an impressive 17th in the European Mountain Running Champs, Alex Hirst completed the Trans D'Havet mountain marathon and finished in the top half, and Ruaridh Mon-Williams came 3rd in the Pomona King of the Mountains race in Queensland.
Closer to home Dick Waddington, Jane McCarthy and Andrew Merrick all finished well in the Lakeland 110k Ultimate Trail race (Jane taking 3rd lady) despite pretty grim weather conditions. The same weekend saw a good few harriers competing in the Saunders Mountain Marathon - again suffering on day one with the bad weather - take a look at Sarah Edwards and Mary Gibbons great write-ups which detail some great results by all who took part. Ruaridh was also in action in the lakes that weekend coming 46th in the Skiddaw fell race.
Some great results from our ladies this month - Rachel Carter had a great race at Eccup 10 and was placed 2nd F40, Jemima Elgood came an impressive 4th overall in the Addingham Gala fell race, and Kate Archer and Alison Weston both placed highly at Snowden International Mountain race - Kate coming in 7th lady and Alison 2nd V50.
Dan Wilkinson ran well at Ingleborough fell race finishing in 6th place overall and 1st V40 and Michael Lomas improved his previous time at Snowdon by 11 minutes!
