Tuesday Evening Summer Away Runs 2017

Postby Andy Wolfenden » Wed May 10, 2017 10:26 am

Once again I have been asked to arrange a series of away runs on summer Tuesdays largely when we are excluded from the tennis club and there are no conflicting club events. All the runs are off-road on good tracks. All abilities are welcome, as long as you can run the distance you will be okay. Pace is slow and the emphasis is on the social side of running rather than training. After each run some of us grab some fish and chips and go to the pub in either Otley or Skipton. A week before each run I will post more details on here.
We meet at 7.00 pm . There is ample free parking at all start points. Dates and venues as follows:

May 30th - Meet at Swinsty Reservoir Car Park, this is the one at the south side of the dam between Fewston and Swinsty.
The run goes round the back of Swinsty res over on to Jack Hill Lane and down to Dob Park bridge, returning along the west side of the reservoir.
Approx 6 miles.

June 20th - Dob Park - Meet at the lay-by just off the Otley/ Blubberhouses road. We run across the fields to Lindley Bridge then through Lindley Woods
Norwood Bottom and lovely Dob Park Hill for the finish.
Approx 6 miles.Tennis Club is closed to us on this occasion.

July 11th - Sharp Haw from Skipton - Meet in the Coach Street canal side car park in Skipton. It's a there and back run over the golf course on to Brackenly Lane
and then a direct ascent returning through Tarn House caravan park and White Hills.
Approx 8.5 miles. Tennis Club closed to us tonight.

August 1st - Meet at Halton Heights near the cattle grid on the Barden / Embsay road. If the weather is kind we run over Barden Moor, if it's not so nice we'll
run down to Bolton Abbey returning round Lower Barden Res.
Approx 8.5 miles. Tennis Club closed to us.

The first summer Tuesday away run is next week May 30th.
We meet at 7.00 pm in the Swinsty Reservoir car park that's the one on the south side of the Fewston dam. Parking is free.
The run is an easy 6 mile suitable for all abilities, off-road but over good tracks.
Afterwards we will go to Otley for some refreshments courtesy of The Maypole Chip Shop and Old Cock pub.
I look forward to seeing you all there.

Next TuesdayJune 20th the Tennis Club is closed to us and we have an alternative to the usual club run, this is an away run taking in Lindley Wood and Dob Park.
The 6 mile run is over mixed terrain of fields and tracks and is a social event for all abilities.
Parking is available at the lay-by on a minor road just off the Otley Blubberhouses road B6451. GR196493. We meet at 7.00pm.
As parking is at a premium I suggest that you share transport wherever possible.
Afterwards it's down to Otley for chips and liquid refreshments.
I look forward to seeing you all there.

Next Tuesday July 11th we have our away run to Sharp Haw from Skipton. Meet in the canal car park (free at this time) off Coach Street at 7.00pm . This run is approximately 9 miles and is mostly off road with some climbing. As usual the pace will be slow. Afterwards we will refresh ourselves at Bizzy Lizzie's chip shop and the Narrowboat pub. I look forward to seeing you all there.

Next Tuesday, August 1st we have the last of the summer away run.
This time we meet at Halton Heights near the cattle grid near the summit on the Barden to Embsay road.
The route is weather dependent, either over Barden Moor if fine (8.5 m) or down to Bolton Abbey if inclement (9 m).
As usual meet at 7.00pm and try to share transport as parking is a bit limited.
Afterwards we will call into Skipton but this time we'll use the main car park off the main street and use the chip shop there which serves haddock and then to the Narrow Boat Pub for the customary refreshments.
