Tuesday Evening Away Runs 2014

Postby Andy Wolfenden » Sun Apr 27, 2014 12:48 pm

Once again this year we will be having 4 Tuesday summer “away runs”. The dates coincide with Tuesdays when there are no significant racing events, and also with the dates when we are excluded from the tennis club.

The emphasis is on the social side of things, with easy paced running suitable for most abilities.

After the run most of us grab a bite to eat in a local chippie, and then retire to a convenient pub.

I will post full details of the meeting arrangements etc for each run during the week before.

Here are the dates for your diaries, and I look forward to seeing you on the runs.

RUN No1. – May 27th – DOB PARK. Approx 6 miles

RUN No2. – June 17th – SHARP HAW. Approx 9 miles

RUN No3. – July 8th – HALTON HEIGHTS / BARDEN MOOR. Approx 8.5 miles

RUN No4. – July 29th – ADDINGHAM / DRAUGHTON HEIGHTS. Approx 8 miles

Cheers

Hi Everyone,

Next Tuesday, May 27th, sees the first of the 4 away runs scheduled for this summer.

These away runs give the opportunity to run with people you don’t usually run with in your regular Tuesday group, and are planned as social rather than training runs. They are suitable for most abilities, and faster runners are very welcome as long as they re-group for we slow ones.

They are all trail runs and are mostly over good tracks.

The first run is at Dob Park, this is the shortest at just over 6 miles.

We meet in the lay-by which is situated on a minor road just off the Otley to Blubberhouses road. GR196493 at 7.00 pm. Parking is available for quite a few cars here, but please share transport wherever possible.

We drop down through the fields from Dob Park to Lindley Wood, run past the reservoir and finish with a nice hill back up through Dob Park.

Afterwards we will be heading for the Maypole chip shop in Otley followed by a visit to Wetherspoons if they have beer, if not it will be The Junction.

I look forward to seeing you all there.

Next Tuesday’s “Away Run” is the ascent of Sharp Haw from Skipton, this is the longest away run at a little over 9 miles.

As usual everyone is welcome, you’ll be fine so long as you can jog along for 9 miles.

We meet in the canal-side car park behind the Aghrah curry house at 7.00 pm sharp, parking is free after 6.00 pm.

We run through Skipton woods, across the golf course through the forestry and ascend Sharp Haw through the rhododendrons; let’s hope for a clear evening.

Apres run consists of a visit to Bizzie Lizzie’s chip shop followed by drinks in the Narrow Boat pub.

I look forward to seeing you all there.

Hello Everyone,

Our next away run is on Tuesday next week, July 8th, and this time it’s a run of about 8.5 miles that covers a good portion of Barden Moor.

We meet by the cattle grid at Halton Heights, the high point on the Barden to Embsay road, at 7.00 pm. There is ample parking here or in the vicinity, but it’s always best to share transport if possible.

The run is over good tracks but wild country, so if the weather is particularly bad I might change the route.

Everyone is welcome as long as you can do the distance. Re-grouping will be required for we slow ones.

Afterwards once again we will visit Bizzie Lizzie’s chip shop in Skipton and then into the Narrowboat pub.

See you all there.

Hi Everyone,

Next Tuesday sees the final Tuesday summer “Away Run”.

This time it’s one that we first did 2 years ago. Beginning and finishing at The Swan pub in Addingham.

We begin with a steady climb to Draughton Heights then down to Draughton village and back via Addingham Golf Course. It’s about 7 miles over mixed terrain.

We meet for a 7.00 pm start.

Free parking is available behind the pub.

Sandwiches and chips will be provided in The Swan afterwards. The food is for club members only, and those who take part on the run will take priority should the numbers catered for be exceeded.

I look forward to seeing you all there.
